Angola Road trip

From Luanda to Malanje

Vamos

We started our journey early in the morning and drove for 3 hours, then stopped at Hotel Terminus Ndalatando for lunch. The busy town already made me realize I love to return to this town and spend a few days here. It would be a little detox from the busy rustle life in Luanda. After lunch, we spent 30 minutes exploring the abandoned botanical garden called Horto-botanico de N’dalatando.

Then continue on as we  drive to PEDRAS DE PUNGO ANDONGO (2:20) then we hike for 30 minutes

Then we drove to our hotel, the Hotel Palácio Regina II. There, I met a friend of a friend and had dinner. It was nice getting to know her, and I bought a few gifts for the family in that town. Afterwards, I headed to bed.

The next day, we drove to the Calandula Falls and spent a few hours hiking to the falls before relaxing at the hotel playgrounds. Afterwards, we went home and stopped again at Hotel Terminus Ndalatando for lunch before heading back home.

Here are a few things to remember: Angola is just now opening up to tourism; it was never actually closed, but due to war and civil unrest, it was not considered a safe country. Now, the government is trying to change that, but it still needs significant infrastructure improvements. Some roads still require maintenance, and it’s safer to be on the road early in the morning or just before sunset. There are many accidents at night, so if you decide to drive, be very careful. Also, it’s better to carry cash if you are heading to Providence. Public transport is not reliable; it’s better to rent a car. One more thing to remember: Angolan people are very warm and welcoming.

For this trip, I had a tour guide; they arranged the transportation, and lunch along with the hotel stay were included.

I can’t wait to explore more of Angola in different cities. I hope you get the chance to explore my country and see for yourself how you’re left with saudades.
